Utilizing Communication Strategies to Increase STEM Diversity and the Public’s Scientific Knowledge
Dr. Williams’ research interests include science communication, technology, and media to explore the public’s understanding of science, how scientists communicate their research, and the role of communication in increasing awareness of issues related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and diversity. The objective of Dr. Williams’ current research is to integrate her experiences in academia and media through her research, with a focus on strengthening public communication and engagement with science and effective mentoring strategies to increase diversity in STEM. These research projects include analysis of weather communication (e.g., National Weather Service advisories and warnings), optimal communication practices for scientists, and communication strategies for mentoring underrepresented STEM students.
